A message from the Founder/Owner: I’m a wife, mother of two boys, long-distance runner and an entrepreneur. Currently, I’m leading my own K-12 consulting firm, EdReform Partners, where I partner with schools and their stakeholders to promote city-wide educational reform. Prior to this initiative, I served as Deputy Director of the Office of Charter Schools at Detroit Public Schools. I also have several years of community development experience. I’m committed to several causes including: children, education, racial equity and women’s issues. Two of those causes led me to co-found The Detroit Women’s Leadership Network, a group of women of all races, ages and career stages united by our belief in mentoring, uplifting and supporting one another. I frequently take them to visit museums, zoos, and even indoor playgrounds. We drive to wherever we must to have fun; however it’s not always convenient. After the […]

SO WHY SHOP LOCAL IN D1?
Because… each of us have the power to change our local economy by the way we spend our dollars. Supporting our local businesses can help to create thriving, healthy sustainable communities and create overall prosperity for the entire district. Each dollar you spend at independent businesses returns 3 times more money to our local economy, creating jobs and opportunities for local residents. Most importantly, it helps to create character for our neighborhoods and community and encourages others to DI$COVER D1! Anyone can Discover D1 by attending a local event or shopping local with a District One business. Check out our events calendar and directory for more information about our local businesses and to find your next discovery!
DI$COVER D1 is a targeted shop local initiative powered by the Knight Foundation to support and promote local independent businesses in Detroit’s city council District One. Expanding civic engagement amongst residents and locals in and around Detroit, DI$COVER D1 creates a platform where locals can discover new and existing businesses in the district. DI$COVER D1 is the intersection of small business and community engagement. We believe that we can help fuel small business growth and build community by supporting our local businesses.
